Dry Cedar

This fragrance opens with quite an aggressive cedar note. It reminded me exactly of cedar shavings. Thankfully the sharpness dies down as it develops, making room for the other notes to shine through. In the drydown it becomes a pleasant woody scent, with notes of citrus, cypress and vanilla. To me it reads too dry for a forest. It's more of a wood shop or an antique store. I think you have to really love the smell of wood to love this fragrance. For me it was nice, but not something I would choose to wear. The performance was okay: not great, not terrible, but certainly not as powerful as one tends to expect from Tom Ford.

Not quite ready to pull the plug...yet

Bois Marocain starts off quite earthy/woody, which is usually what I prefer. It's just a little too much so, if that makes any sense. I wasn't very impressed with its staying power, either. I was successful pairing it with Penhaligon's Halfeti Cedar, though. The two meshed rather well, and may just save the Marocain from the scrap heap.

The spices and incense make me feel too damn exotic!
