Gericault's Charging Chasseur, his first exhibited work, already demonstrated the artist's impressive talent for subverting the tropes of convention (in this case the heroic portrait of a Napoleonic cavalryman) in the service of creating a more complex, challenging narrative. It's the perfect inspiration for Cuir Cavalier, a richly spiced oud and leather scent that nods to the heavyweights of the smoky leather category while carving out a smooth, sophisticated niche all its own. Cuir Cavalier opens bright and fiery, with a crisp Italian red tangerine paired with a luscious saffron, leading into a rich floral leather heart. A warm, powerful base of oud and vanilla hums beautifully, a perfect chord with the still potent thread of saffron that continues to elevate the entire composition with a poised masculine gracefulness. Like a masterpiece that presents an iconic image in a way you've never before seen, Cuir Cavalier is a bold new portrait of a classic concept.

Notes:

Italian red tangerine, saffron, rose, iris, cypriol, white honey, oud, soft leather, cedar, tonka bean, vanilla, musks

Cuir Cavalier, Clean Rose-Leather

There are mixed reviews on this little gem. I believe the negative feedback is simply that reviewers were expecting something different-that’s the case in most instances with sampling scents (IMO). I like to sit back and look and pros and cons of what people are saying, and then what the perfumer is trying to accomplish with his or her composition. In this case, this is simply a beautiful Turkish rose & leather fragrance. I don’t believe consumers open a decant and are swept off their feet after taking a whiff and dabbing a sample on their wrist. That rarely happens-right? It takes time, a few days, a couple of weeks, and in some cases longer. It took me over a month to realize that Oud Minérale by Tom Ford is my “scent.” Weird, indeed.

I call Cuir Cavalier the “good mood,” or “happy fragrance.” The scent of rose encourages opening of the heart while soothing emotions, being especially useful for anxiety and depression. There’s a good dose of radiant, honeyed, Turkish rose. The fragrance just harmonizes with the body and soul. If you were looking for a Russian leather, you will be disappointed. This is intentionally a clean leather, make no doubt. It was no accident that this scent smells clean. By the way, the honey and the powdery orris in the heart notes compliments beautifully with the Turkish rose.

In the top note loads of Turkish rose and saffron poured on sweet-juicy, honeyed, mandarin orange.

In base notes you have Agarwood, leather, musk, cedar, tonka bean, and comforting vanilla. Vanilla conveys comfort and security and softens anger and frustration. Together, vanilla and Turkish rose invites sensuality, builds confidence, relaxes inhibitions. All of that and with the honeyed notes, it’s a total mood relaxing fragrance. It’s best applied to clean skin, after you get out of the shower. You will feel calmer and at peace wearing it. I can totally see this fragrance being worn relaxing around the house, on vacation, or on cabin get away. It’s just feels so comfy. I played center in football, I served in the Air Force and have a Purple Heart, and I recommend this fine ju-ju for anyone.
