"Would you be willing to sell your soul to the Devil to possess his perfume? This essence is part of his powers, of his eternal seduction." So reads Liquides Imaginaires' tagline for Beaute du Diable, a spicy, sweet, richly aromatic concoction that opens like a perfect gin on the rocks before taking a turn into richly spicy florals and aromatic cypress before settling into a dusty, smoky, smolderingly sexy fragrance that's as irresistible as it is hard to define. Picture the devil as a gorgeously androgynous figure in an immaculately tailored suit strolling towards you down a gaslamp-lit cobblestone alley, a puff of smoke rising from the street with each footstep. You're nervous, but intrigued, and as soon as their scent hits your nose, you know that for tonight, at least, you're going to go wherever they want you to go. That's the seductive, mysterious power of Beaute du Diable.

Notes:

Top notes are Gin, Absinthe, Coriander, Bitter Orange and Italian Lemon; middle notes are Clove, Carnation, Geranium, Cypress and Ylang-Ylang; base notes are Cobblestone, Guaiac Wood, Labdanum and Haitian Vetiver.

Suuuper intense

Incredibly strong and smoky and dark and peppery. A bit too much for me to wear personally, but I can appreciate its complexity and intensity.

Ring, ring darling, it's Cruella de Vil! - With pepper for all.

This perfume IS spice. In good ways and bad. The opening is a blast of pure, fresh-cracked black pepper, so much pepper you'd expect this to be Cruella's (book version) daily scent. Smoky and peppery is the name of the game for this perfume. A sample of aromatic hellfire, almost. As it dries, the woods and other spices begin to come up, but not really any fruitiness. Any fruit notes got drowned out by the hefty woods and spices. And yes, the pepperiness stays, it just harmonizes with the rest of the notes as it ages. Becomes quite pleasant and subtle after an hour or two, feels very dirty and very sultry, in a devilish way. However, if you've no nose for pepper, you've no nose for this! I found the spices swallowed the other notes, which ultimately detracted from my overall enjoyment of the perfume, as I do love spiced citrus, and I had high hopes for this scent. Seasonality is for sure winter. Overall: Projection could have been way better, and the notes ultimately fell flat due to the pepperiness of it all.

So smoky and sultry

It has a notes of floral but it’s overmasked by a lot of smoke. Must be from the smell of gin and absinthe. It’s hard to describe but it’s very sexy. I love it overall! Can’t wait to try more from Liquides Imaginaires
