Wood, leather, marble, and gold are the elements of The Persian palace Olivier Creed takes inspiration to create Royal Oud. The Sadabad Palace in Tehran.
The French house of perfumery released this oud-optimized fragrance in 2011, far later than any other niche and designer houses have approached the oriental trend with at least one oud perfume in their portfolio. However, it looked Creed was working on it all those years of silence. The result was and still is superior.
Nevertheless, there is something in Royal Oud that makes this perfume pretty apart from the rest of the oud trend and that is a dry woody cedarwood, amplified by pink pepper and angelica, and last but not the least, a touch of galbanum to give the essential earthy greenness. Smart composition.
While the oud trend insists to imitate the tree’s fungal and animalic characteristics, Mr. Creed hires cedarwood and pink pepper, and angelica to give the impression of huge sycamore trees of the palace.
Royal Oud reflects the prestige of the palace, the nostalgia of its hey-days, and pictures a hidden romance in its sumptuous woodiness. It’s a king-size oud and by sure, one of the best from the house.
